Bio: Born in New Jersey, raised in Miami and Atlanta, Patti O has lived in Seattle since 1990. She has spent most of her life dedicated to art in one form or another with emphasis on visual, musical and culinary arts. With a wide variety of interests and a penchant for misbehaving in school settings she did not take the path of higher education and has no formal training. She is self-taught and disciplined, dedicated to creating art that speaks to her life experiences and unique perspective. Her subject matter ranges from whimsical to political, always with a sparkling flare and a focus on the use of "previously enjoyed" objects.
Patti O has shown her work at the Anacortes Art Festival in the juried exhibition, at Roq La Rue gallery in Seattle, the Steve Gilbert Studio and A/NT Gallery in Seattle Center.
Statement: I began this particular style of art around the beginning of Covid. I wanted to make use of the abundance of time I was afforded by creating some kind of memento to mark the strange moment we all shared as a community on this planet. I found a child mannequin at a garage sale in Roslyn, got a bag of rhinestones from the craft store... and Covid Kid was born. When that project was complete, I didn't want to stop, so I haven't...
At this point I NEED to work on these projects. It has become my therapy and meditation, my mission, my life's work. I feel lucky to have found this kind of love and I can only hope that the viewer will experience even a fraction of the joy it brings me to create it.
